Animalium
The zoo of endangered and nearly extinct animals
A vanishing form of a world wonder
Let yourself be astonished by the first world wonder: nature.
Animalium opens the doors to the zoo of (almost) extinct animals — an exceptional collection that may give you one last chance to encounter these beings up close.
Enter Animalium, at your own risk of course, and step into a world where wonder and fiction continuously intertwine.
“It feels like stepping into another world for a moment.
De Machienerie turns mechanics into something incredibly poetic — you watch, full of wonder, everything that moves, while at the same time sensing the fragility of what is about to disappear. You leave with a smile, and with something that lingers.”
A guided tour with Karl Hagenbeck
Under the guidance of adventurer and explorer Karl Hagenbeck, the audience is taken on a personal tour through this extraordinary universe.
He shares stories of expeditions to the farthest corners of the world, where he claims to have rediscovered seemingly extinct species.
From the Yangtze River to distant oceans, a series of encounters unfolds with rare and nearly forgotten creatures.
Between exhibition and encounter
Animalium moves between installation and interactive performance.
Visitors are confronted with a carefully constructed universe in which animals, stories, and mechanical imagination merge into a single scenographic experience.
The boundary between observation and participation dissolves as the audience moves through the space.
A living collection of nearly forgotten species
Here you may encounter, among others, the presumed last Baiji dolphin, the Bornean rhinoceros, Rothschild’s giraffe, and Oryctes nasicornis (the rhinoceros beetle).
Each is presented as a living witness of a disappearing world — somewhere between science, imagination, and theatre.
